Sheriff Investigating Fatal One-Car Crash In Maryland

Police have released the name of a 52-year-old man who was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Charles County over the holiday weekend.

Nanjemoy resident John Walter Knott was killed in the crash shortly before 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 2 near the intersection of Poorhouse Road and Glasgow Lane in Port Tobacco, officials said on Tuesday, July 5.

Upon arrival at the scene, Diane Richardson of the Charles County Sheriff's Media Relations Office said that deputies located Knott after he crashed into multiple trees.

Knott was pronounced dead at the scene, she added.

The preliminary investigation determined that Knott lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason, left the roadway, and struck the trees. The investigation is ongoing.
